The Two States Between You Getting What You Want

The Tantrum State

This is where we feel bad. Here’s why we feel bad. We look at what we want and say,

‘I don’t have this. It’s not fair. X is so unfair. They are just being beastly to me. I want it and I haven’t got it’

Of course we become more refined and we rationalize our justifications in more sophisticated ways. Essentially though our direction is the same as a two-year-old’s temper tantrum. Our focus is on what is blocking us from having what we want. This makes us feel bad. After a while as we focus more attention on what blocks us we will have more detailed and sophisticated explanations. In time we’ll believe these more strongly and so get further away from the thing we want. Maybe we’ll even shut off from wanting things and feel numb, depressed, lifeless and stagnant.

The Creation State

The second state is where you are on the path to what you want. Think of it this way. You dig a hole in the ground, through your thoughts, for what you want.

What you want is in a bowl that would fit perfectly into the hole you have dug. But at the moment there are obstacles blocking you from having what you want. These are like sticks holding the bowl (what you want) apart from your hole.

Often there are many obstacles between you and what you want. So you have many bowls separated from each other by sticks propping them up.

So the process is to identify what the first obstacle is between you and the thing you want. Tackle it and knock the stick away. The bowl will fall into the ground.

Repeat this over and over and sooner or later the thing you want will fall into the hole you dug and you have created that which you wanted.

Some say to this, but it seems like such an effort.

Perhaps.

The key point is this. As you are tackling the obstacles and focusing on what you want… you feel good. You feel excitement, passion and life flowing through your veins.

It isn’t really even about the end goal. It’s about the journey. And you can know you are travelling towards what you want if you feel good and away from it if you feel bad.

Fear: The Hidden Barrier

Ultimately the only thing in life that stops us from living the life of our dreams is ourselves.

We limit the amount of life force that flows through us through our openness to life and it’s experiences. We choose our beliefs. Most of our beliefs are handed down from generation to generation and accepted without question, just because everyone agrees that’s the way it’s always been. We just get trained into believing certain things and stuff them into a dark cupboard in the recesses of our mind and never consider them again. Yet these beliefs determine the reality that we see.

Change your beliefs and you change the entire landscape of your world. Our beliefs create a structure – our Operating System. As the force of life flows through our beliefs and so determines what we think, say and do, this creates the world we see about us.

Different beliefs would lead us to think, say or act differently. This would evoke a different reaction from the people around us or even cause us to be in a different place with different people. We’d get a different experience of life and so feel different emotions.

Of course at times, for everyone, life has its tough moments. Equally we all have many, many opportunities, but so many people just don’t see them.

The major reason that we don’t see them, or act on those we see, is fear. So many people feel anxious walking into a room with other people in. Or trying out something new. Almost everything in life is inhibited, limited or ruined to some extent by fear.

Its fear that stops us from sharing our true self and our talents with the world.

Its fear that stops us from enjoying relationships as intimate and honest as they could be.

Its fear that blocks millions of people from doing anything more exciting than sitting in front of the telly night, after night.

Its fear that makes us settle for the certainty of ordinary, rather than the excitement of the incredible.

Yet again it only ruins our lives because we misunderstand the role fear plays in our lives.

Fear comes about from uncertainty. Physical fear is a protection against danger. If a hungry lion were creeping up behind you, wouldn’t you want some kind of warning? Fear is like the warning light in your car that tells you you’re low on oil.

Emotional fear serves a similar purpose. When you begin to dream and you feel fear, it is caused by the friction of the life force flowing through your beliefs. The fear comes from the conflict between the dream and a belief in opposition to your dream.

The greater your fear... the more life force flowing through you... and so the more power and importance connected to the dream. Once you identify the opposing belief and change it your fear will transform into a momentum that will speed up the process of bringing your dream to life.

Though usually we misunderstand this. And the fear becomes so great that it paralyses us. Instead of taking this as encouragement that our dream is on its way and identifying the belief… we try to dull down the fear. The side effect of this is to dilute or ignore our dreams. Instead we settle for that which doesn’t cause such uncomfortable feelings. The other side of this is that it bores us and makes us feel less than we know we could be.

Many people think that beliefs are set in stone. This isn’t true. Everything you believe, you believe for a reason. Most of the time it was a choice we made many years ago and now we’d choose differently. However as life is so fast paced, we’ve never got around to reviewing our beliefs. Getting clearer about what exactly is frightening you will bring you to the obstructing belief.

Then if you analyse and examine the information on which the belief is based you will sooner or later find something that isn’t true. When you fill in the gaps in your knowledge you can choose to base your belief on the new evidence. And as the life force flows through your new beliefs… your dream will now begin to take shape.
