The Question
I wanted to ask a question if you can spare the time. I was just wondering if you have an opinion on why happiness seems so elusive to people?
Why is it much easier to be unhappy than happy? I know this is a strange question but it has been on my mind for a while and I was just wondering from a professional perspective, if you have an idea why this is.
Im sorry to take up your time, thank you for reading this and take care.
My Response
Because we need a million different things to happen for us to be happy.
We need to have the right room temperature or we complain that it’s too hot or cold.
We need to have enough of the right food.
We need to have people talk to us as we want them to, look at us even in the right way – we’re such divas, aren’t we?
People usually think the more I have, the happier I’ll be. Actually…
The less you need to be happy, the more likely you are to be happy.
Our actual needs are minimal. Oxygen every three minutes. Water every day. Food every few days. Sleep ever few hours. Oher than that we don’t need that much.
Also, we’re trigger happy. Our nervous system is primed to react to fear. Gets our attention, whereas happy people never think about being happy. As soon as you do, you lose it, because you’ll automatically search for what’s wrong. It’s the way we are wired to see and respond to problems.
The biggest reason though for me is because we play other people’s games. We try to fit into the world when we should hold true to our blueprint, what we are and live by our code of what is right and not look to others for what we ‘should’ be doing.
I hate when people say ‘they say’. It means they are using someone else as an authority for what they decide is true. It seems a small thing, but it’s indicative of something deep in someone’s operating system that means that they believe that others – Government, Church, The newspaper, Scientists etc hold the absolute truth and so they have to fit in with them and do as they say.
If you stop to think about it, these things aren’t actually real. The only thing that is real, is people. The rest of it all is abstract concepts. Shared beliefs among people, but beliefs are like advertising, half of advertising is wasted, but you don’t know which half.
You absolutely have to remain the person you have been built to be. If it truly is in you that is telling you, that you don’t fit the world’s mould then you have to stay true to that. It is the people that refuse to conform that fix the problems we have in our society
